Pushpay Churches Raise Funds to Help Hurricane Michael Survivors

Flattened blocks, collapsed buildings, and crippled infrastructure are what’s left in the wake of Hurricane Michael.

A category four storm when it made landfall on the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday, October 10th, Michael was considerably more destructive than any storm the area has experienced in the last several decades.

It produced heavy rainfall and flash floods in Alabama, Virginia, and the Carolinas, but it’s Florida that experienced the most property damage and loss of life. Though rescue efforts are underway across the affected regions, 13 lives have been lost to date, and many are still missing.

Among those especially impacted by the storm are residents of the Florida coast—many are older individuals who suffer from chronic illnesses or live with disabilities. For them, the devastation and personal loss caused by Michael is unspeakable. The entire country is grieving with those affected by the storm. But for the Church, this grief runs especially deep. The Church isn’t just called to care for people well, but also to empathize with those who are in pain, deliver hope where there is none, and comfort those who are suffering.

While the nation is working to rebuild Florida and surrounding states stronger than ever, churches have also stepped forward to address the needs of those affected by the hurricane.
